This work is a combination of ready-mades used in a manner counter to their usual function. Arrangement of objects becomes an exercise in aesthetic composition similar to that of a painter. Flamboyant coloration of hardware store safety colors, flashy catalogs, and electronics make the piece excessively loud. The balancing act, temporary nature of the hardware, and the suspension of the weighty monitor over an already broken mirror create a sense of tension and unease. On the monitor and headphones plays a loop created from a major Hollywood film. The visual is a kind of white noise, looped back and forth, failing to materialize into anything coherent. The audio track is pulled from the same film, but all dialog, silences, or pure musical score have been eliminated leaving a 40 minute loop of abstract sounds, grunts, and mechanical noises. Without a corresponding visual to contextualize it the sounds lose their ability to be understood and have to be readdressed as an aesthetic experience.
